From Founded Building to the Legal Form of Foundation
After 30 years of exhibition activity, in summer 2003 the Kunsthalle was transformed form an institution within the municipal administration into an independent institution with nonprofit character. The organizational form of a foundation under civil law ensures its long-term operation and at the same time places it on a firm basis.
The endowment fund stems in part from private donations, as in 2003 the Zundel family was prepared to again make a considerable contribution. This is supplemented by the profits from the successful exhibition work. Thus it is ultimately the entrance fees from art lovers that in turn benefit the interest in art and serve the purpose of the foundation “to promote the visual arts through exhibitions and other events as well as through publications, to cultivate traditional as well as contemporary art, and by doing so arouse an appreciation of art.”
