Elderly Women in Image and Text
This lecture is delivered by Dina Abd Elsalam, Egyptian filmmaker and novelist, who is particularly interested in the lives of elderly women. She will be screening two of her films and commenting on them along with her novel, all of which majorly deal with elderly women. The commentary will mainly tackle culture-specific elements related to the status of senior women in Egyptian society. The audience are highly encouraged to engage in the discussion and ask questions.
Dina Abd Elsalam is an Egyptian filmmaker. Her films have received many awards, and were screened both nationally and internationally. She holds a Ph.D. in Critical Theory and currently works as an Associate Professor at the English Department, Faculty of Arts at Alexandria University, where she teaches literary criticism, classical literature and film studies. She is also a novelist and short story writer.
